Over a Decade of Artistic Evolution and International Practice
Building on more than a decade of artistic exploration, Jingmin Ren 任静敏 | JMREN® is a Sydney-based interdisciplinary artist and artist–researcher whose contemporary practice spans painting, calligraphy, public art, sculpture and artistic research.
Her work explores time, light, spiritual energy, nature, astronomy and cultural perspectives, bringing Eastern philosophical and artistic traditions into dialogue with contemporary experience. From her long-standing exploration of spiritual energy, light and the inner world to her more recent investigations of solar time, seasonal knowledge and the relationship between humanity and the natural world, Ren’s practice continues to evolve across disciplines, cultures and forms.
This evolving inquiry has led to her current Solar Longitude research, extending her artistic practice into an interdisciplinary exploration of time, astronomy, seasonal knowledge and our relationship with the natural world.
SOLAR LONGITUDE — TIME ORBIT

Solar Longitude – Time Orbit is a large-scale public artwork and artistic research project by Jingmin Ren, created at Sydney’s Bondi Sea Wall.
Drawing on solar longitude, the Twenty-Four Solar Terms and observations of nature from the Southern Hemisphere, the work explores how humanity shares the same astronomical position of the Sun while experiencing different seasons, landscapes and cultural interpretations across the Earth.
Through painting, Chinese calligraphy, astronomical coordinates and observations of the local environment, the project translates a traditional seasonal knowledge system into a contemporary Southern Hemisphere context.

Jingmin Ren’s artistic research investigates the relationship between solar longitude, seasonal experience, time, place and cultural knowledge, with particular attention to how shared astronomical coordinates are experienced differently across hemispheres and landscapes.
Developed through writing, public art and sculpture, her research extends the Solar Longitude project into broader questions of Spatial Time, seasonal-phase translation, and the relationship between astronomical systems and lived experience.

Her current research-led practice investigates the relationship between astronomical time, seasonal experience, place and culture, extending artistic observation into new spatial and interdisciplinary forms.
